Virginia’s Blue Ridge Offers a Kaleidoscope of Experiential Flavors– [Gallagherstravels.com] – Winner of more awards than any other restaurant in the area, “The Rail” uses local, all natural, wild caught and organic ingredients whenever possible. Executive Chef, young and dynamic entrepreneur, Tyler Thomas, was about to open an adjacent butcher shop called Yard Bull Meats the evening of my visit.
Beyond the Star [Richmond Magazine] – Good restaurants abound in Roanoke, but two grand ones are Rockfish Food and Wine, and The River and Rail. River and Rail stands out for house-made condiments and cured meats (a delectable starter of fried oysters with a touch of kimchi was also a hit with me).
Revival of a Trout Hatchery [Filson.com] – Quotes Chef Tyler Thomas “To provide the best experience for our guests, I need to know exactly where the trout come from, how they are treated, what they are fed, and who is handling them through the entire process”.
VirginiaLiving.com – “Shad Roe Season” features a recipe from Chef Tyler Thomas known as the “Hangtown” Shad Roe Scramble (crispy shad roe with soft scrambled eggs and smoky bacon).
